Swimming
The swimming program adapts to each individual student's capabilities. This has been made possible though the commitment of our dedicated volunteers who provide 1:1 learning in most situations. This has enabled the students to remain far more focused and interested and also excited about the new skills they are developing. For the less confident swimmers we focus largely on water safety in and around the pool. Priorities are given to issues such as getting into the pool safely, floating skills and recovering to safe areas in the pool. Safety equipment such as floating devices are used to improve the safety skills and water confidence in all students. For the more capable swimmers we work on gross motor skills such as stroke and kicking techniques. This has improved the students' self esteem and confidence.
The swimming instructor works closely with the speech pathologist and the speech therapist in order to implement appropriate strategies during swimming sessions.
