Physical Education
Physical Education is taught from Junior School to Transition years. In Junior School, students learn such skills as turn taking, comprehending and following instructions through games. Through the able assistance of the school physiotherapist the children have the opportunity to learn and practice basic stretches and exercises. This not only helps them from a physical fitness point of view but it also aids them in body and spatial awareness.Students in the upper Junior Years and Middle Years have the opportunity to learn and practice skills from a number of sports including Soccer, Basketball and Australian Rules. The students, in each lesson, are taken through a regular exercise and stretching routine. This is an important routine for students as it reinforces the importance of health and exercise in their general well being.
In Transition Year, students are again taught the rules and skills in a number of sports. On Friday afternoons a selection of students have the opportunity to play in interschool sports. This has been highly successful and not only reinforces the skills specific to the sports they learn in class, but also develops good social and team building skills.
Students also have a chance to develop their fitness through 'Running Club' held on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. They also learn to ride a bike through the 'Bike Education' program.
The major emphasis of physical education is making it available to students across the school, regardless of the level of disability.
