Music
Music is a language that speaks to everyone. We believe that music enhances self-esteem, self-confidence, and independence through a range of listening, singing, and movement activities. We encourage all students (and staff) to take part in school performances and participate in our celebrated School Choir.
The music teaching program enables all students to participate in weekly class sessions where musical skills are taught through singing, song learning, movement, improvisation, performance, playing instruments, listening to music and relaxation. Included are playing opportunities on drums and other percussion instruments, pianos, keyboards, guitars and microphones. Social skills such as communication, turn taking, waiting, listening to others, and respect and care for each other, the instruments and the music space are all taught as integral aspects of a musical experience. Students are encouraged to develop their full potential and experience increased self esteem, positive self worth and confidence through success opportunities created by music making.
